CBRE is the first real estate services firm in Australia to be awarded WELL Certification at the Gold level for its national headquarters at 363 George Street, Sydney, by the International WELL Building Institute™ (IWBI™).
The prestigious accreditation was awarded through IWBI’s WELL Building Standard™ (WELL™) – the premier, performance-based building standard, which is focused on enhancing people’s health and wellness through the buildings where we live, learn and work. Certification is based on the seven key categories of building performance – air, water, light, nourishment, fitness, comfort and mind.
363 George Street achieved its WELL Certified™ Gold level certification through features including ergonomic sit-to-stand desks, toxin-free furniture and fittings to optimise air quality, low glare lighting to ensure productivity, updated catering guidelines to promote healthy eating choices, and the promotion of a diverse and inclusive workplace.
CBRE Pacific Director of Sustainability, Emma McMahon, said achieving WELL Certification demonstrated CBRE’s ongoing commitment to providing healthy, productive and engaging workplaces.
“We are extremely proud to be the first real estate firm in Australia to achieve WELL Certification at the Gold level,” Ms McMahon said.
“CBRE is a strong believer in the importance of wellness in workplace design and how this can optimise our workspaces, enhance the health and wellbeing of our people and improve their productivity. Therefore, when we undertook the refurbishment our office space at 363 George, wellness was at the forefront of every decision.”
“CBRE’s Building Management, Project Management, Workplace Strategy and Sustainability teams collaborated closely throughout the project to ensure the associated WELL Building Standard design and operational requirements were met. This was pivotal to the success of the project.”
The project is the fifth CBRE office to secure WELL Certification globally, with CBRE’s Los Angeles, Vancouver, Toronto and Madrid headquarters all achieving this distinction.
“CBRE Sydney’s WELL Certification at the Gold level demonstrates CBRE’s outstanding leadership and its continuous commitment to putting people at the centre of design and workplace decisions in Australia and around the globe,” said Rick Fedrizzi, Chairman and CEO of the International WELL Building Institute™.
“We are pleased to extend our congratulations to CBRE as they continue to advance our shared mission to elevate human health and wellness to the forefront of building practices.”
To be awarded WELL Certification by IWBI, CBRE’s workplace underwent rigorous testing and a final evaluation carried out by Green Business Certification Inc., a third-party certification for WELL, to ensure it met all WELL Certified™ Gold performance requirements.
